If America had a national season, it would be summer. The hot summer months are a special time for the country. It was in the middle of the summer that the patriots would sign the declaration of independence. It would be eighty-seven years later, to the day, Lincoln’s four score and seven, that as a divided nation, America would endure one of its bloodiest battles. In another war, in another era, on a summer’s day, American troops began the liberation of France. Two early American statesmen, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, died within hours of each other, on July 4th, 1824.
The summer is also when American’s play their national pass-time, and kids oil up their mitts and take balls and bats to fields and sandlots across the country, it is when we celebrate American’s bounty on grills and barbeques from coast to coast. In the summer, if you put on a baseball game, get a burger off the grill and an ear of corn and a slice of watermelon, and a glass of lemon aide, it will be hard to forget Woody Guthrie’s anthem, “This land was made for you and me.”
In celebration of the American summer, WHG has some new products coming out, that we think you’ll enjoy.
We have the WHG baseball jersey and ball cap (both available in kids and adult sizes). For those summer afternoons, around the barbeque grill, we have the Hail to the Chef barbeque apron, and the Washington DC ● Summer 2001 frosty freezer mug. The jerseys will be in stock by May 14th, and everything else will be here by Memorial Day. Keep checking the site for updates, and check out the Summer page for more information and pictures.
